The Vikings will face Miami without Justin Jefferson. Minnesota listed its star receiver out for Sunday after he missed all three practices this week with a sprained left ankle.
Jefferson was injured on a 10-yard reception during the first quarter of Minnesota’s 23–16 win over Tampa Bay last Sunday. An MRI confirmed the sprain, and the team’s final injury report removed any remaining doubt about his Week 4 status.
What Minnesota loses
Jefferson has 13 catches for 179 yards and two touchdowns through three games. Those numbers are only part of the problem for Miami—or, now, the challenge for Minnesota. Defenses build coverage plans around Jefferson before the ball is snapped. Without him, the Vikings lose the player who can tilt a secondary and create cleaner opportunities everywhere else.
Minnesota is 3–0 and Miami is 0–3, but those records do not make this a free win. The Vikings must redistribute targets, stay efficient and avoid asking one replacement to imitate a receiver who changes the geometry of the entire offense.
Kris’s Take
This is a useful early test for an unbeaten team. Minnesota has been good enough to start 3–0, but real contenders need answers when their best offensive player is unavailable. The Vikings do not need anyone to become Jefferson for one afternoon. They need the whole passing game to become less predictable. If the offense stalls against a winless Miami team, Jefferson’s absence will expose how dependent Minnesota really is on one superstar.
